Ovation Acquires Exclusive Off-Network Rights from Twentieth Television to "So You Think You Can Dance"
Series to Have Ovation Debut this Summer
New York, NY – April 6, 2011 During a breakfast meeting held this morning in New York, Ovation showcased its advertising Upfront presentation for members of the press and revealed that the network had recently acquired from Twentieth Television the exclusive off-network rights to seasons 6-8 of FOX Network’s So You Think You Can Dance. The popular series will have its Ovation debut this August.
“As the only network dedicated to arts culture, So You Think You Can Dance is a natural for Ovation,” said Kris Slava, Ovation’s SVP, Programming, during the presentation. “Dance as an art form is having an exciting resurgence, thanks in large part to this series. This summer, we’re giving dance fans a chance to catch up with, or relive some great moments. It’s the perfect time for an encore of the fan’s favorites from previous seasons.”
So You Think You Can Dance has been a hit with viewers since its debut on FOX in 2005 and has won five Emmy Awards® for Outstanding Choreography and a total of seven Emmys altogether.
Orly Adelson, President of dick clark productions and Nigel Lythgoe, Executive Producer stated, "The timing of the launch on Ovation and the upcoming season on FOX will complement each other to provide our loyal fans a summer filled with dynamic dance competition."
Ovation will strip the show from Friday to Monday beginning this August. The network will kick things off with Season 6, which originally aired in 2009, followed by Season 7 from last year and Season 8, which is set to premiere on FOX this May.
Along with the debut of the series, Ovation will create a resource microsite for up-and-coming dancers and choreographers and dance fans. The site will include dance videos explaining the history and style of different dance genres, expert tips and guest bloggers.
“This series became an audience favorite by not only focusing on these gorgeous dancers’ immense talent, but by also showcasing cutting-edge new works choreographed specifically for the dancers on the show. Watching this on Ovation will be an immersive experience for fans as we surround the series with other fantastic shows and online elements that underscore the artistry of dance,” continued Slava.
So You Think You Can Dance was created by Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe and is produced by 19 Entertainment and dick clark productions, inc.
