Ovation TV Celebrates the Cannes Film Festival with “Vive Cannes” on Saturday, May 23

“Vive Cannes” Kicks Off a New Season of Ovation TV’s Monday Night Movie Slot – “Destination Arthouse”

LOS ANGELES (May 4, 2009) – As the Cannes International Film Festival celebrates its 62nd year on the French Rivera; film aficionados can enjoy some classic French filmmaking right here at home.   To kick off of its newest season of “Destination Arthouse,” Ovation TV, the only television network dedicated to art and contemporary culture, will feature “Vive Cannes,” a movie marathon of films from the StudioCanal library sponsored by the French Office of Film & Television on Saturday, May 23, beginning at 12:00 noon, ET/PT.  The “Vive Cannes” marathon will include:

•    My Favorite Season (1993) - André Téchiné directs Catherine Deneuve and Daniel Auteuil in a tale of a middle-aged brother and sister who must deal with their elderly mother’s deteriorating health.  Airing at 12:00 noon ET/PT.

•    Un Flic (1972) – This was acclaimed director Jean-Pierre Melville's final film.  A classic film noir starring Richard Crenna, Catherine Deneuve and Alain Delon. Airing at 3:30 p.m. ET/PT.

•    Diva (1981) - Jean-Jacques Beineix made a notable debut as a director with this slick movie about a young mail carrier who illegally records a performance by an opera singer, then gets the tape mixed up with evidence that could incriminate gangsters.  Beineix won the Cesar for Best First Work and Philippe Rousselot won for Best Cinematography.  Airing at 5:30 p.m. ET/PT.

•    Wild Reeds (1994) - André Téchiné won the Cesar for Best Film, Best Director and Writing and Élodie Bouchez won for Most Promising Actress for this unusual coming-of-age story set in French boarding school in 1962.  Airing at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT with an encore at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Following “Vive Cannes,” Ovation TV’s new season of “Destination Arthouse,” a regular 8 p.m. Monday night slot dedicated to independent and/or foreign language films, will feature films from the StudioCanal library of classic French cinema by such celebrated directors as Jean Renoir, Luis Buñuel, André Téchiné, Jean-Luc Godard, and Jean-Pierre Melville through the summer.
