This year's Europa-Concert takes place in Berlin, on the 125th anniversary of the Berlin Philharmonic. The theme is "The Year 1882" and the Berlin Philharmonic, under the baton of maestro Simon Rattle, perform Brahms' "Concerto for violin, cello and orchestra", his Fourth Symphony and Wagners' "Prelude to Act I" from Parsifal, which was the orchestras first recording in September 1913 under Alfred Hertz. Soloists Lisa Batiashvili (violin) and Truls Mork (cello) are renowned virtuosos who regularly perform with the greatest orchestras of the world. The venue for Europa-Concert 2007 is Kraftwerk und Kabelwerk Oberspree (the power and cable factory) in Berlin, one of the most impressive historical industrial building from the late 19th century.
