Just the word "burlesque" has an innate ability to conjure up images of vamps dancing in various stages of undress, beckoning and teasing up on stage. For the ten women featured in this documentary, the word "burlesque" brings to mind freedom, self-acceptance and fun. A WINK AND A SMILE shows how ten ordinary women made the burlesque stage their own. Along the way, each of these women learned a great deal about themselves, and learned to embrace their inner sensuality and bring out the showgirl deep inside.
