Jazz Heroes is an innovative series that explores the years from 1946 to 1966, examining the brilliant music that emerged from those formative years as well as personal recollections from those who lived the music and the culture. The impact of jazz has gone far beyond the music - its influence on fashion, language, street culture and cinema is inescapable. This episode focuses on baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan whose innovative musicianship and personality defined the sound and style of the early 50's. Saxophonist Lee Konitz, one of Mulligan's band members, is also featured in this edition of Jazz Heroes.
