JS Bach in Auschwitz
Michael Daeron's documentary interviews eleven of the forty women prisoners who played in an orchestra at Auschwitz during the Holocaust. Through the most horrific event in European history, these musicians were able to survive execution and more intense suffering by playing for Nazi officers and fellow prisoners, whom they would often see marching towards the gas chambers while they played. In addition to physical survival, playing music helped these women endure the intense emotional turmoil that all prisoners of Auschwitz were forced to experience.
