1. Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused is released, and a then-unknown Matthew McConaughey speaks his first words on screen: the infamous, “Alright, alright, alright.” That’s right, we have 1993 to thank for the glory that is Matthew McConaughey. (Check his audition tape here!)

3. ’93 gives birth to one of the greatest cult television shows of all time – approaching the paranormal and sparking interests of conspiracy theories, spirituality and extraterrestrial. Plus, who didn’t love Agent Scully & Agent Mulder; the believer-versus-skeptic duo working to prove “The Truth is Out There”?

4. Airing its first ad in 1993, the Got Milk? campaign encourages dairy drinking and cements the milk mustache as a pop culture icon. The campaign would go on to run for eleven years and became one of the most influential campaigns in American advertising history.
