National Endowment of the Arts Announces 2018 Grantees Across the Country and the Heartland

May 09, 2018

Today the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) announced its grants for the 2018 fiscal year. The NEA will award 1,071 grants totaling $81.76 million to support programs that provide jobs to artists, administrators and other creative workers and arts experiences for millions of people.

NEA grantees include local organizations spanning the arts from theatre, literature, film, to the fine arts throughout the United States. Across the heartland, organizations such as the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale, MS; the Lawrence Art Center in Lawrence, KS; Shakespeare Festival in St. Louis, MO and the Tennessee Arts Commission in Nashville, TN are receiving grants from the NEA. Ovation recognizes that the contributions of local arts organizations and cultural institutions do not often benefit from exposure on a national platform. In response, Ovation recently introduced the “Arts Across the Heartland” initiative, which aims to shine a light on the places and people who elevate and enrich their communities through the arts.

Among Ovation’s Stand For The Arts coalition members receiving support are:

  • Appalshop, Inc. in Whitesburg, KY for artist residencies, cultural events and a multimedia storytelling project
  • Juxtaposition Arts in Minneapolis, MN to support an arts and design project
  • National Assembly of State Arts Agencies in Washington, D.C. for education and public awareness for the state arts agency field
