Arts Across the Heartland Special

Arts Across the Heartland Special

This original, one-hour documentary takes an intimate look at how cities across the country are making a difference in their communities through the power of art. We go outside major metropolitan cities to heartland cities, from Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Mississippi, Utah, Oregon, Tennessee, South Dakota, to Virginia, to highlight everyday, grassroots work of arts organizations.

We highlight the following organizations:

  • Suzie Cappa Art Center in Rapid City, SD, where artists with and without disabilities work and sell their artwork

  • Mississippi Museum of Art, which partners with the UMMC Mind Center for “Art in Mind,” weekly arts classes for people living with early to moderate dementia

  • Utah Symphony, where musicians have created the Haiti Orchestra Institute, a musical outreach program that trains Haitian musicians to rehearse and perform in an orchestra

  • Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, Missouri's largest contemporary art museum

  • Tulsa Ballet in OK, which fosters appreciation and support for the art of dance through education and outreach

  • Riverviews Artspace in Lynchburg, VA, which is committed to the growth of a thriving, collaborative and diverse community

  • Nashville Symphony in TN, whose Accelerando initiative prepares gifted young students of diverse ethnic backgrounds for pursuing music at the collegiate level and beyond
  • Arts Across the Heartland
