About the show

A behind-the-scenes drama and espionage thriller set in Cold War-era England that centers on a journalist, a producer, and an anchorman for an investigative news program. With the Suez Crisis brewing in the background, a small team of British journalists launches an hourlong investigative news show on BBC television called THE HOUR. Producer Bel Rowley (Romola Garai) pulls in Freddie Lyon (Ben Whishaw), the best reporter she knows, to serve as the show’s home affairs correspondent, while the handsome and charismatic Hector Madden (Dominic West) gets the coveted position of presenter.

Hector has risen to the status of national celebrity. With connections in Government and pursued by the press, he maintains his appearance as a happily married man and face of 'The Hour.' A night at the club goes awry, scandal threatens, and Hector must try to stop a news story that could destroy his marriage and his career.

Bel has been producing "The Hour" single-handed since Freddie's departure and is upset to find out that Hector is considering leaving for a competitor, ITV. She's sworn off married men, but tensions arise as Freddie comes back to the show while she's fighting the ever charming Bill Knowles in order to keep Hector from fleeing to ITV.

After Freddie was fired from "The Hour," he spent several months traveling the world. His surprise return to "The Hour" unsettles not only Hector, but also Bel. The spark between them is still alive, but Freddie has a secret that Bel has yet to uncover, which changes everything.

Lix is heading up the foreign desk when Randall arrives at "The Hour." Lix and Randall have a complicated and emotional history. Ultimately she wrestles with her own identity as Randall accuses her of running from the past.
